Taxonomy
Cochleosaurus florensis was named by Rieppel (1980). Its type specimen is MCZ 4343, a skull, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Dominion Coal Co. strip mine No. 7, which is in a Westphalian C/Westphalian D mire/swamp coal/shale in Canada.
