Taxonomy
Athericites kensmithi was named by Mostovski et al. (2003). Its type specimen is NHM In 64655, a wing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Smokejacks Brickworks, which is in a Barremian pond claystone/siltstone in the Weald Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Palaepangonius kensmithi by Grimaldi (2016).
