Taxonomy
Athericites finchi was named by Mostovski et al. (2003). Its type specimen is BMB 023836/023837, a wing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Clockhouse Brickworks (BMB collection), which is in a Hauterivian lagoonal sandstone in the Weald Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Palaepangonius finchi by Grimaldi (2016).
