Curiosivespa orapa was named by Brothers (1992). Its type specimen is BP/2/27125, an exoskeleton (complete female), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Orapa (Bernard Price Institute), which is in a Turonian lacustrine - large mudstone in Botswana.
