Taxonomy
Cidaris forbesiana was named by de Koninck (1863). It is the type species of Permocidaris.

It was recombined as Eocidaris forbesiana by Waagen and Pichl (1885); it was misspelled as Permocidaris forbesi by Lambert (1900); it was recombined as Permocidaris forbesiana by Clapham (2015).
