Lumectospongiidae was named by Rigby and Chatterton (1989). It is not extant. It is the type family of Lumectospongioidea.

It was assigned to Lyssacinosa by Rigby and Chatterton (1989); and to Lumectospongioidea by Finks and Rigby (2004).
