Taxonomy
Gerris defuncta was named by Handlirsch (1910). It is an impression. Its type locality is Quilchena, which is in a Ypresian lacustrine - large mudstone in the Coldwater Beds Formation of Canada.
It was considered a nomen dubium by Nel and Paicheler (1993); it was recombined as Telmatrechus defunctus by Andersen (1998) and Damgaard (2008).
