Leda subscitula was named by Meek and Hayden (1858).

It was recombined as Leda (Nucula) subscitula by Meek and Hayden (1858); it was recombined as Yoldia subscitula by Meek and Hayden (1865), White (1891) and Mudge et al. (1962); it was recombined as Paleyoldia subscitula by Wagner (2023).
