Taxonomy
Rissoa obtusa was named by Brown (1839). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Newtown, River Irk, Bed 8, which is in a Wuchiapingian shallow subtidal packstone in the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Turbo obtusus by Geinitz (1861) and Langenhan (1899); it was recombined as Omphaloptycha obtusa by Riedel (1917); it was recombined as Coelostylina obtusa by Dietz (1911) and Pattison (1970).
