Meuniera was named by Piton (1936). It is the type genus of Meunierini.
It was assigned to Cicadidae by Piton (1936), Piton and Théobald (1937) and Piton (1940); and to Meunierini by Boulard and Nel (1990), Shcherbakov (2008) and Moulds (2018).
