Dictyophara was named by Germar (1833). It is extant. It is the type genus of Dyctiophoroides.
It was assigned to Fulgoridae by Piton (1940); and to Dictyopharidae by Scudder (1890), Becker-Migdisova (1964) and Szwedo et al. (2004).
