Theromorpha was named by Cope (1878). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Anomodontia by Osborn (1904); it was reranked as the superorder Theromorpha by Nopcsa (1923), Nopcsa (1928) and Roxo (1937).

It was assigned to Monozygocrotapha by Nopcsa (1928); to Synapsida by Roxo (1937); and to Reptilia by Zittel (1890), Nopcsa (1923), Swinton (1934) and Kuhn (1946).
