Glyptometopus was named by Rasetti (1944) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Trep]. It is not extant. Its type is Glyptometopus laflammei.
It was assigned to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Dokimocephalidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
