Taxonomy
Saurichthys elongatus was named by Stensiö (1925). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Mt. Congress, lowest Triassic bone-bed, which is in a Dienerian marine siliciclastic in Svalbard and Jan Mayen.

It was recombined as Saurichthys (Lepidosaurichthys) elongatus by Tintori (2013).
