Illaenus conradi was named by Billings (1859). Its type specimen is GSC 1320a, an exoskeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Nanillaenus conradi by Shaw (1968); it was recombined as Thaleops conradi by Amati and Westrop (2004).
