Taxonomy

Phoberomys was named by Kraglievich (1926). It was considered monophyletic by Rasia and Candela (2018).

It was assigned to Eumegamyinae by Paula Couto (1956); and to Neoepiblemidae by Negri and Ferigolo (1999) and Rasia and Candela (2018).

Dabbenea insolita, Dabbenea lozanoi, Dabbenea minima, P. bordasi, P. burmeisteri (syn. Euphilus burmeisteri, Megamys burmeisteri, P. lozanoi, P. praecursor, P. insolita, P. minima), P. gyulavarii, P. pattersoni (syn. Dabbenea pattersoni)

Synonyms

Perumys was named by Kretzoi and Voros (1989).

It was synonymized subjectively with Phoberomys by Rasia and Candela (2018).

It was assigned to Neoepiblemidae by Kretzoi and Voros (1989).
Dabbenea was named by Kraglievich (1926). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Phoberomys by Bondesio and Bocquentin Villanueva (1988).

It was assigned to Neoepiblemidae by Mones (1980); and to Dinomyidae by McKenna and Bell (1997).

M. Kretzoi and I. Voros 1989 (Perumys)	Member of the Phoberomys group of gigantic caviods, differing from Phoberomys in its somewhat smaller size, in the anteroposteriorly very short and broad evergrowing molare composed of vertical lamellae in nearlly transveral-and not diagonal- position, with interlmellar synclines chosed on the lingual end, filled out with cement.
