Glyptoleda javesi was named by Waterhouse (1983). Its type specimen is UQ F70065 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UQ L3725, Exmoor Homestead, which is in an Artinskian marine sandstone/siltstone in the Tiverton Formation of Australia.
