Taxonomy
Coptogyrinus scutellatus was named by Handlirsch (1906). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Dobbertin, Mecklenburg (Greifswald collection), which is in a Toarcian offshore claystone in Germany. It is the type species of Coptogyrinus.
