Taxonomy
Bombus vetustus was named by Rasnitsyn and Michener (1991). Its type specimen is PIN 2054/229, an exoskeleton (whole bee), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Botchi (PIN collection 2054), which is in a Miocene lacustrine - small diatomite in the Botchi Formation of the Russian Federation.
