Mesonirvana was named by Evans (1956). Its type is Mesonirvana abrupta.

It was synonymized subjectively with Eoscartoides by Lambkin (2016).

It was assigned to Scytinopteridae by Evans (1956); to Hylicellidae by Hamilton (1992); and to Dysmorphoptilidae by Lambkin (2017).
