Shurabella was named by Becker-Migdisova (1949). Its type is Shurabella lepyroniopsis. It is the type genus of Shurabellidae.

It was assigned to Heteroptera by Hamilton (1992); and to Shurabellidae by Popov (1971) and Nel and Paicheler (1993).
