Neochonetes volitanliopsis was named by Xu (1987).
It was synonymized subjectively with Neochonetes (Huangichonetes) substrophomenoides by Shen and Archbold (2002); it was recombined as Chonetinella volitanliopsis by Xu and Grant (1994) and Zhang et al. (2013).
