Acondylacanthus was named by John and Worthen (1875). It is not extant. Its type is Acondylacanthus gracilis.
It was assigned to Ichthyodorulites by Hay (1902); to Orodontidae by Jordan (1963); and to Ctenacanthidae by Zangerl (1981).
