Productus granuliferus was named by Toula (1875).
It was recombined as Horridonia granulifera by Ustritsky and Chernyak (1963), Nelson and Johnson (1968), Brabb and Grant (1971) and Kalashnikov (1993); it was recombined as Sowerbina granulifera by Grunt et al. (2002); it was recombined as Bruntonia granulifera by Angiolini and Long (2008).
