Taxonomy
Penthetria canadensis was named by Handlirsch (1910). It is an impression. Its type locality is Tulameen river, opposite Vermilion bluff, which is in a Ypresian lacustrine horizon in the Allenby Formation of Canada.
It was recombined as Plecia canadensis by Rice (1959).
