Taxonomy
Neilonellidae was named by Schileyko (1989) [HISTORY: Neilonellidae Allen 1978, nom. nud. = Saturniidae Allen and Hannah 1987, non Bosiduval 1837 (see ICZN Opinion 1170, 1981: ICZN Code Art. 55). [Coan et al. 2000]]. It is extant.

It was reranked as the subfamily Neilonellidae by Carter et al. (2011).

It was assigned to Nuculanacea by Maxwell (1992); to Nuculoida by Spencer et al. (2004); to Nuculanoidea by Coan et al. (2000), Todd (2001), Bieler and Mikkelsen (2006), Mikkelsen and Bieler (2008) and Bouchet et al. (2010); and to Tindariidae by Carter et al. (2011).
