Avicula inaequicostata was named by Benecke (1868).

It was recombined as Pseudomonotis (Eumorphotis) inaequicostata by Ogilvie Gordon (1927); it was recombined as Eumorphotis inaequicostata by Chen (1982) and Yang et al. (1986).
