Taxonomy
Sitona was named by Germar (1817). It is extant. It is the type genus of Sitonisidae.

It was assigned to Curculionidae by Scudder (1878) and Wickham (1913); and to Sitonini by Yunakov and Kirejtshuk (2011), Bouchard et al. (2011) and Legalov (2015).
