Rhyparochromus was named by Hahn (1826). It is extant. It is the type genus of Rhyparochromides, Rhyparochrominae, Rhyparochromini.
It was assigned to Myodochinae by Scudder (1878); to Rhyparochromidae by Scudder (1890); and to Rhyparochromini by Henry and Adamski (1998) and Péricart (2001).
