Reduvius was named by Fabricius (1775). It is extant. It is the type genus of Reduviidae, Reduviinae.
It was assigned to Ryngota by Fabricius (1775); to Hemiptera by Latreille (1796); to Cimicides by Latreille (1802); and to Reduviinae by Scudder (1878), Hwang and Weirauch (2012) and Ghahari et al. (2013).
