Dorcatoma was named by Herbst (1791) [Dorcatoma ruled to be correct original spelling (Herbst used "Dorkatoma") by ICZN.]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Coleoptera by Herbst (1791); to Dorcatominae by Bouchard et al. (2011); and to Dorcatomini by Zahradník and Háva (2014).
