Taxonomy
Attopsis superba was named by Förster (1891). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Brunstatt, horizon d3, which is in an Oligocene lacustrine - large marl in France.

It was recombined as Solenopsis superba by Theobald (1937) and Bolton (2012).
