Verruca prisca was named by Bosquet (1854). It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Priscoverruca.

It was recombined as Verruca (Verruca) prisca by Jagt and Collins (1989); it was recombined as Priscoverruca prisca by Gale and Vidovic (2023).
