Noelaspis was named by Ludvigsen et al. (1989) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm u Sepkoski's reference number: ZR90]. Its type is Noelaspis bilobata.

It was assigned to Loganellidae by Ludvigsen et al. (1989); to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Idahoiidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
