Ammonites (Ceratites) binodosus was named by Hauer (1850).

It was recombined as Ceratites binodosus by Hauer (1851), Arthaber (1896), Arthaber (1896) and Arthaber (1915); it was recombined as Paraceratites binodosus by Zhao and Wang (1974) and Fantini Sestini (1988); it was recombined as Schreyerites binodosus by Monnet et al. (2008).
