Taxonomy
Wentzelella szechuanensis was named by Huang (1932). It is the type species of Wentzelella (Szechuanophyllum).

It was recombined as Wentzelella (Szechuanophyllum) szechuanensis by Minato and Kato (1965); it was recombined as Szechuanophyllum szechuanensis by Wu and Wang (1974) and Guo (1980); it was recombined as Szechuanophyllum szechuanense by Yu et al. (1981).
