Taxonomy
Lachnus petrorum was named by Scudder (1877). Its type specimen is Dawson coll 19, a wing (fragment of a wing), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Quesnel, which is in a Priabonian lacustrine shale in the Australian Creek Formation of Canada. It is the type species of Geranchon.
It was recombined as Gerancon petrorum by Scudder (1894); it was recombined as Geranchon petrorum by Scudder (1890), Scudder (1895) and Heie and Wegierek (2011).
