Paraphyllanthoxylon was named by Bailey (1924). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Paraphyllanthoxylon arizonense. It was considered unknown by Jud (2011).

It was assigned to Angiospermae by Andrews (1970); to Euphorbiaceae by Lakhanpal et al. (1976) and Srivastava (1991); and to Magnoliopsida by Jud (2011).
