Taxonomy
Prostacheoceras alter was named by Leonova (1989). Its type specimen is PIN 3591/75, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kur-Istyk River, Kochusu suite, Pamir Mountains, which is in a Kungurian marine horizon in the Kochusu Formation of Tajikistan.

It was recombined as Pamirites alter by Leonova (2018).
