Shyndoceras obsoletus was named by Leonova (1983). Its type specimen is PIN 3591/122 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was corrected as Shyndoceras obsoletum by Leonova (1989), Leonova (1992) and Leonova (2002); it was recombined as Metaperrinites obsoletus by Zhou and Yang (2005).
