Taxonomy
Plecia creedensis was named by James (1938). Its type specimen is MCZ 4523, an exoskeleton (female well preserved), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Creede (MCZ collection), which is in an Oligocene crater lake shale in the Creede Formation of Colorado.
It was recombined as Penthetria creedensis by Fitzgerald (1999).
