Taxonomy
Peromaptera was named by Brongniart (1894). Its type is Peromaptera filholi. It is the type genus of Peromapteridae.

It was assigned to Peromapteridae by Handlirsch (1906), Handlirsch (1919) and Handlirsch (1922); and to Eugereonidae by Kukalová (1969) and Carpenter (1992).
