Microdictya klebsi was named by Meunier (1908). It is an impression. Its type locality is Commentry (MNHN later coll), which is in a Gzhelian lacustrine deltaic shale in the Commentry Shales Formation of France.
It was recombined as Stenodictya klebsi by Handlirsch (1919), Handlirsch (1922) and Kukalová (1970).
