Lithochrysa was named by Carpenter (1935). Its type is Palaeochrysa wickhami.

It was synonymized subjectively with Palaeochrysa by Adams (1967).

It was assigned to Chrysopidae by Carpenter (1935); and to Nothochrysinae by Archibald and Makarkin (2017) and Makarkin et al. (2022).
