Leptomitus metta was named by Rigby (1983). It is not extant. Its type locality is Marjum Formation, Locality 1, which is in a Menevian offshore shelf mudstone/limestone in the Marjum Formation of Utah.
It was recombined as Leptomitella metta by Rigby and Collins (2004).
