Taxonomy
Hormotoma whiteavesi was named by Clarke and Ruedemann (1903). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pike's Quarry, Frost Ave & Summer St, Rochester, which is in a Homerian carbonate dolomite in the Lockport Formation of New York.

It was recombined as Michelia whiteavesi by Wagner (2023).
