Schmalenseeia was named by Moberg (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm uMid-l Cm Dres-l Sepkoski's reference number: 472]. It is not extant. Its type is Schmalenseeia amphionura.
It was assigned to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Burlingiidae by Jell and Adrain (2002) and Jago et al. (2004).
