Taxonomy
Halobates ruffoi was named by Andersen et al. (1994). Its type specimen is IG 24536, an exoskeleton (Adult, wingless female), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Monte Bolca (MCSN Verona collection), which is in a Ypresian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal limestone in the Pesciara Formation of Italy.
