Taenora was named by Palmer (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Dres-u Cm Fran-l Sepkoski's reference number: 618]. It is not extant. Its type is Taenora expansa.

It was assigned to Aphelaspididae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
