Tetragregnon was named by Ormiston and Lane (1976) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-u P Djhu Sepkoski's reference number: 535,1007].

It was assigned to Pseudolitheliidae by De Wever et al. (2001); to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tetratormentidae by Noble et al. (2017).
